Multiple branches of the Volusia County Library were targeted last week in an attempted security intrusion.

The breach itself was reported on Thursday morning, over 600 computers located in the library system are believed to be affected and were taken off-line.

The affected computers were believed to be used by both staff and patrons. By Friday, fifty or so computers were put back on-line for business use only. As of today, five hundred computers are still off-line pending investigations.

The official Library website has not been affected and at this time patrons to the Volusia County Library can still check-in/out books and use the Wi-Fi, but computers are unable to connect to the internet.

It’s been noted, that Brevard, Lake, and Flagler County libraries allow patrons of the Volusia County Library to utilize their public-access computers at this time, based on their reciprocal agreement.

Computers are expected to be back in full function by this Friday, January 24, 2020, at the Regional Libraries (Daytona, New Smyrna, Deltona, Deland, and Ormond), followed by Community Libraries soon after.
