Back in January, the Volusia County Council greenlighted the construction of a coastal park along the oceanfront of Daytona Beach Shores.

According to a release, Monday, March 1, the existing Dahlia Avenue off-beach parking, restrooms, and beach access will close to the public for approximately 10 months to allow for demolition of the current facilities and construction of the new park.

The construction project includes demolition of the current restroom facility, beach access, and parking lot at the eastern end of Dahlia Avenue.

A county-owned, vacant parcel that was formally the Jasmine Motel, will also be used in the Dahlia Avenue coastal park to improve the previous beach approach with new facilities that will include a family-style restroom building, showers, two pavilions, a bike rack, off-beach parking, and direct ADA access to the beach.

In addition to the work performed by the contractor, the county plans to install a playground and grills at the park. The closure for construction will also allow for improvements to be made to the current seawall.

The new park is expected to open in early 2022.
