Governor Ron DeSantis spoke from Bethune-Cookman University Campus in Daytona Beach this afternoon, to announce his support of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) budget.

The Governor initially signed a $9.2 Billion Budget Monday. DeSantis is focusing on the money that next year's budget allocates to helping academics at Florida's HBCUs.

An increase of $13 million will go to Bethune-Cookman University and an increase of $3.5 Million for both Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens and Edward Water’s College in Jacksonville.

The allocation of the increase in budget funds will go towards assisting and supporting students, improving academic programs, and adding more degree programs. Each college or university has its plan on what to do with the budget. According to President Faison of Edward Waters College, they plan to turn their institution from a college into a University.

“Investment in HBCU’s are critical,” President Chrite of Bethune-Cookman University said during the Press Conference. “With the support of our Governor, there is a prospect of working to fulfill our mission and support our students.”

"I wanted to make sure we preserved this support for HBCUs," said DeSantis.
