The music world mourns the loss of Tina Turner, the iconic rock singer known for her electrifying performances and a string of chart-topping hits, including ‘The Best’, ‘Proud Mary’, ‘Private Dancer’, and ‘What's Love Got to Do with It’. Turner passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 83 years old, after a long illness at her home in Kusnacht, near Zurich, Switzerland where she lived with her second husband former EMI record executive Erwin Bach. Her groundbreaking contributions to rock music, and her resilience in the face of personal struggles, have left an indelible mark on the industry.

Born in the United States, Tina Turner rose to fame in the 1960s alongside her former husband, Ike Turner. Together, they captivated audiences with their soulful music and energetic stage presence. The duo's classic song, ‘River Deep, Mountain High,’ remains an iconic piece of music history.

Behind the scenes, Tina endured years of domestic abuse at the hands of Ike Turner, and her journey to break free from the toxic relationship inspired many.

Turner received 12 Grammy Awards and was honored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice in her lifetime - initially in 1991 alongside Ike and later in 2021 as a solo artist. The prestigious Kennedy Center paid tribute to her in 2005, with luminaries such as Beyoncé and Oprah Winfrey joining the chorus of acclaim.

Her remarkable life inspired a film, a Broadway musical, and a poignant HBO documentary in 2021, which Turner deemed her public farewell.
