Nina Tidwell, a Co-Pastor of Ponce Church located in Ponce Inlet, has had many years of fulfilling a mission to help the homeless in her community. Her cause started in Arizona helping the local shelter, Chrysalis Shelter, with donations for toys and clothes for women and children in need.

Since moving to Ponce Inlet 2003 Nina and her family have served their community in helping the homeless by operating a soup kitchen that’s open on Tuesdays and Saturdays located at 320 North Street Daytona Beach. She assisted in starting Legacy House, a ministry that gives a home to foster girls, in Ormond Beach.

Nina has dedicated herself to providing a haven to homeless women that are looking for a place to call home.

Her vision is to utilize a property that can accommodate manufactured homes, that allows two women to reside per home, for a total occupancy of 44 women at a time. The residents of the Ponce Village Homeless Women Housing will contribute to the community and offered services to assist them in rehabilitation from homelessness.

Ponce Village will offer rehabilitative programs with the help of Halifax Urban Ministries connecting women with services to help get any kind of assistance needed from medical to information that will eventually lead to them becoming self-sufficient and phase-out of the program.

“No one will be turned away if there’s room,” Nina said in an interview.

Nina plans to work with First Step Shelter, Inc in Daytona Beach, and other homeless shelters in the area with taking in homeless women on their waitlists. There is no definitive time frame of when Ponce Village Homeless Women Housing is set to open.

Her first step comes with a Women’s Luncheon planned for April 18, 2020, at the Grand Ol’ Barn in New Smyrna where she wants to gain awareness to the community that Ponce Village is coming.

If anyone has any questions or comments Nina can be reached at (386) 308-1533 or via email
