The City of Port Orange Public Utilities Department, which also serves a large portion of the City of Daytona Beach Shores and Ponce Inlet, will perform annual flushing and maintenance activities on the water distribution system beginning Monday, August 8, 2022.

The annual flushing and maintenance of the water distribution system will involve changing the disinfectant from chloramines to free chlorine.

According to a release, the free chlorine residual will move out into the distribution system while city staff conducts thorough flushing of all the water mains. Maintenance and flushing of the water lines are performed annually to maintain the water distribution system. During this time, the water continues to be of the highest quality and completely safe to drink. However, with the change in disinfectant, some customers may notice a slight difference in the taste of the water. The maintenance and flushing activities will be completed on Monday, September 19, 2022, when the system returns to using chloramines.

Areas affected by this are the Port Orange water distribution system, Harbor Oaks, Allendale, Ponce Inlet, and Daytona Beach Shores from Thames Avenue south to the southern city limits.

If you have any questions concerning this procedure, contact water treatment plant personnel at 386-506-5770.
