Student arrested for firearm possession at Mainland High School.

On Thursday, August 24, 2023, the School Resource Officer (SRO) responsible for Mainland High School was alerted to a concerning social media post that depicted a student on the school campus in possession of a firearm.

According to official reports, school authorities swiftly contacted the SRO after becoming aware of the troubling social media post. An investigation promptly involving the SRO and the Daytona Beach Police Department was initiated. As a result of their efforts, Chase Souza, 15, was taken into custody.

In light of this incident, authorities are taking the opportunity to remind the public, particularly students, parents, and school staff, about the importance of remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious activities or behaviors.
