A 15-year-old Dayton Beach teen was left critically injured after being struck by a van while riding his skateboard near Madison Avenue and White Street.

The accident happened late Friday, just after 11:30 p.m.

According to a release, the front of a black 2009 Dodge Journey struck the skateboarder as both attempted to cross the intersection. The van was heading east on Madison while the skateboarder was going north on White.

Detectives believe the van driver had the green light at the time of the crash and that the red lights were in effect for traffic on White.

The skateboarder was described as wearing dark-colored clothing and believed to have had headphones over his ears when struck.

No injuries were reported by the driver or passenger of the van, both Daytona Beach residents.

When First responders arrived on the scene, paramedics transported the teen to Halifax Health Medical Center as a trauma alert. He was airlifted to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando, where he succumbed to his injuries and passed away on Saturday.

There are no pending charges at this time, as the investigation is ongoing.
