The City of Daytona Beach has announced it will implement a new rate structure when calculating residents’ monthly utility bills, beginning October 1.

A ‘water and wastewater rate and structure planning study’ conducted by Raftelis - a utility and public-sector consulting firm, provided several recommendations to the city’s utility rates and structures. The City Commission recommended the changes back in February which included a 10-year financial outlook.

According to a release, the change in the rate structure will reduce bill statements for ninety percent of single-family residential customers due to the minimum use quantities to switch with the actual number of gallons used - a change that will encourage water conservation. Customers who have a timely payment history for twenty-four consecutive months beginning with October 2021’s statement will have their deposits refunded through a credit to their account starting in October 2023.

The city last had a change in service rates was back in 2004.
