Volusia County Schools has begun construction on the new Beachside Elementary School, combining Ortona and Osceola elementary schools. The two 1950s-era schools will merge into a singular, modern school at Ortona’s site on North Grandview and North Halifax avenues in Daytona Beach.

Ajax Construction is overseeing the building, with its opening scheduled for late 2022. During construction, the nearby Osceola site in Ormond Beach will hold all future Beachside students and staff.

The new Elementary School will serve up to 765 students and have enough space for each curriculum, such as art, music, and more. The design of the new school reflects the beach community of both schools and gives homage to the 60s and 70s rooflines.

“This new state-of-the-art school will bring significant, modern educational opportunities to our students,” said Volusia County Schools Superintendent Dr. Fritz. “Although great teachers, involved families, and community partners are key to student success, the learning environment also plays a vital role.”
