Volusia County Schools closed due to Hurricane Ian.

With Hurricane Ian quickly approaching the Florida peninsula, officials with Volusia County Schools decided on Monday evening to close all schools in the district for Wednesday, September 28, 2022, and Thursday, September 29, 2022.

All after-school activities, events, and programs have been canceled throughout the week.

According to the school district, no decision for school closures on Friday, September 30, 2022, has been made. Any Volusia School District employee expected to report to work on Wednesday or Thursday will be contacted by a supervisor.

***Update***

All Volusia district public schools and district offices will be closed for three days (September
28th, 29th and 30th) due to Hurricane Ian. All school activities, events, and programs scheduled
for these days are canceled. Volusia School District employees should not report to work
Wednesday through Friday unless directed by their supervisor.


Superintendent, Dr. Balgobin is in constant communication with the Volusia County Emergency
Management Center regarding the impending storm.


As early as tomorrow, Wednesday, several Volusia schools are needed as shelters for Volusia
County residents. Forecasters are anticipating deteriorating weather conditions over the next
several days including sustained heavy winds and possible substantial rainfall and flooding for
Volusia County. Parents and community residents are encouraged to monitor the district's website
at www.vcsedu.org.
