The Volusia County Transit Services Division is gearing up to participate in the much-anticipated 2023 Mobility Week, October 27 to November 4, with the Florida Department of Transportation by hosting a series of engaging outreach events and programs. Volusia County Transit Services invites residents to join this annual event promoting the importance of safe and diverse transportation alternatives.

This year, Mobility Week offers a golden opportunity for residents to explore and adopt sustainable travel choices. From using public transportation to walking, biking, or carpooling, there are countless ways for residents to make environmentally conscious transportation decisions.

By choosing these sustainable modes of travel, residents not only play a vital role in protecting the planet but also stand to benefit from a respite from the daily traffic grind. Moreover, such choices can lead to significant savings on fuel costs and provide an opportunity to rediscover the joys of their local community.

The Volusia County Transit Services Division will celebrate and educate residents about these sustainable options with two special rider appreciation events, where attendees can gain insights and pick up novelty items to encourage and support their eco-friendly endeavors.

The first event will be held on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the DeBary SunRail Station, 630 S. Charles Richard Beall Boulevard in DeBary. The second event is scheduled for Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Votran Transfer Plaza, 207 Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard in Daytona Beach.

"I challenge everyone to set aside just one trip during Mobility Week to savor the beauty of our county without a personal vehicle. Be it a Votran bus for errands, a bike ride to a local restaurant, or even walking your kids to school, you could discover a heightened sense of connection to the world outside the confines of a car," said Transit Planning Manager Ralf Heseler, a proponent of sustainable transportation, emphasizing the benefits of making such choices during Mobility Week.

Residents of Volusia County are encouraged to mark their calendars for this exciting annual event and take part in the initiative to promote sustainable and eco-friendly transportation choices, benefitting both the environment and their quality of life.
