The motorcyclist that was killed Sunday morning, after a head-on collision with a pickup truck has been identified as Patrick Gilman, from Hampton, Connecticut.

Investigators believe Gilman was traveling North on Ocean Shore Blvd., before entering the southbound lane to pass a vehicle. It was reported that Gilman continued to drive in the southbound lane, into the path of the pickup truck.

Gilman was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the pickup truck was taken to Halifax hospital where he was released a few hours later.

During the investigation of the fatal crash, an Ormond Beach Police Cruiser blocking traffic with an officer inside was struck by another motorist.

The officer was taken to Halifax Hospital but has since been released. According to Ormond Beach Police Public Information Officer Keith Walker, the officer involved is doing well, and reports to being “a little sore.”

The driver that hit the police cruiser sustained no injuries in the crash.
